Shared web hosting can be an affordable hosting option for some websites. With shared web hosting, several websites use the same server to connect to the internet and store data. The websites are separated by partitions and the cost of hosting is spread out onto several websites.

There are several factors to consider before choosing shared hosting:

1. Storage space. If you have a website that has a lot of content, pictures, files or downloadable programs, you may find that the storage space limitations of shared web hosting do not suit your purpose.
2. No HTTPS. Your website is on the same digital certificate as others so you will not be able to separately encrypt your page. HTTPS is a secure form of hyper-text transfer protocol and is generally used on sites that require a user to input personal information or bank information. If you have an ecommerce site, you may not be able to host the actual basket or checkout on the shared host.
3. Hosting meltdown. While your site may stay well within the storage bounds of your host, there is no guarantee that the sites you share with will. This exposes you to some risk of the host going down.
